This article analyzed the impact of technological innovation on the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the municipality of Sibaté, Cundinamarca, through the application of a system dynamics model. Using a mixed-methods approach that combined quantitative simulation with qualitative validation, a causal and stock-flow model was developed to understand the complex interactions among technology adoption, investment in research and development, human capital, organizational knowledge, and public policy. The simulated model revealed that the transition to higher technological levels significantly increased business competitiveness, especially when positive feedback loops related to operational efficiency, sustained investment, and internal capacity building were strengthened. In addition, structural barriers such as resistance to change, the digital divide, and high staff turnover were identified as limiting factors for the consolidation of organizational knowledge. The results led to the conclusion that technological innovation had to be addressed from a systemic perspective, integrating not only technical elements but also cultural and institutional factors. Furthermore, it was established that sustainable business transformation was only possible when coordinated actions between the public and private sectors were implemented, fostering an enabling environment for the development and strengthening of territorial competitiveness.
